What the extra millimeters buy.
KONO Summit is 8 mm in total: a 6.5 mm rigid SPC core with a 1.5 mm IXPE pad attached, under a 20 mil wear layer, in 9 by 60 inch planks. It is the plank that feels most like a wood floor underfoot.
A thicker core is stiffer, so it bridges small subfloor dips better and sounds less hollow when you walk on it. It also gives the click joint more material to lock into. If you are comparing with 12 mm laminate, remember vinyl is much denser: 8 mm SPC is a heavy, solid plank.
Check the height at doorways and next to existing floors before you choose. Our estimate includes transitions where the new floor meets carpet or tile. Installed, 8 mm LVP starts at $5.55 per sqft in the Sacramento area.

8 mm thick questions, answered straight.
Is 8mm vinyl plank better than 6mm?
It feels more solid and is more forgiving over an imperfect subfloor. Both are waterproof; the wear layer, not the thickness, decides scratch resistance.
Does 8 mm include the pad?
Yes. 6.5 mm of SPC core plus a 1.5 mm attached pad. Some brands quote core only; always compare total to total.
Is there 12mm vinyl plank flooring?
Rarely, and usually the number includes a thick pad. If you want a 12 mm board, that is laminate territory.
