Is 12 mil good enough?
12 mil (0.3 mm) is the residential wear layer: enough for bedrooms, guest rooms, offices and rentals, and the reason a good vinyl plank can cost a dollar less per square foot.
For rooms without heavy traffic, yes. Most wear on a floor happens in walkways, entries and kitchens; a bedroom wears slowly at any thickness. Landlords like 12 mil because it pairs a waterproof core with a lower price, and a damaged plank in a click floor can be replaced.
Our 12 mil planks come in two builds: KONO Essentials at 5.5 mm, the lowest price in our range, and KONO Valley at 7 mm with a softer 2 mm pad. Installed, 12 mil LVP starts at $4.55 per sqft in the Sacramento area.
