20 mil LVP flooring, the commercial wear layer.

Color groups are a guide: undertones shift with daylight and lamps, and one plank can sit in two groups. Pick up a free sample and look at it on your own floor.
Total plank thickness, attached pad included. A thicker plank feels more solid, sounds less hollow and bridges small subfloor dips better. It does not change scratch resistance: that is the wear layer.
Plank width. Wider planks mean fewer seams across the floor and a calmer room that reads larger; narrower planks look classic and suit small rooms. All our planks are 60 inches long.
Materials per square foot. Installation by our crews in the Sacramento area adds $2.35 per sqft; removal, baseboard and stairs are priced per room.
A collection is one spec (thickness, wear layer, width) in several colors. Mixing colors from one collection keeps the floor height and feel identical between rooms.

Where 20 mil earns its price.
The wear layer is the clear film over the printed wood look, and it is what scratches, scuffs and claws actually hit. 20 mil (0.5 mm) is the thickness specified for shops and offices, and the one we recommend for busy family homes.
Kitchens, hallways, entries, homes with dogs and rooms with rolling chairs: anywhere grit and traffic concentrate. A thicker wear layer takes longer to dull and scratch through, so the floor looks new for more years. It does not make vinyl dent-proof: felt pads under furniture still matter.
We carry 20 mil in two builds: KONO Pacific at 6.5 mm in 7 or 9 inch widths, and KONO Summit at 8 mm, our thickest plank. Installed, 20 mil LVP starts at $5.15 per sqft in the Sacramento area.

20 mil wear layer questions, answered straight.
Is 20 mil LVP worth it over 12 mil?
In kitchens, hallways and homes with pets, yes. In a guest bedroom or a rental, 12 mil is usually enough and costs less.
How thick is a 20 mil wear layer?
0.5 mm. One mil is a thousandth of an inch, so 20 mil is 0.02 inch. It is part of the plank's total thickness, not added to it.
Is 20 mil LVP scratch-proof?
No floor is. 20 mil resists everyday scratches from claws and grit well; dragging furniture or a stone under a shoe can still mark it.
