KONO exists because the flooring trade runs on anonymity: mystery mills, relabeled batches, and installers nobody vouches for. We put one name on the box, the warehouse, the crew’s shirts, and the warranty — ours — so there is exactly one company to hold responsible.
KONO started with a question our founders kept hearing across the counter of another flooring store: “so… who actually makes this?” The honest answer was usually nobody-knows — a broker bought it from an importer who bought it from a trading house, and the same plank wore three different brand names in three different showrooms, at three different prices.
So we became the importer ourselves. We fly to the mills. We select European oak décors, Austrian-engineered HDF cores, and specialist wear layers, then contract dedicated production runs to our own written spec — 12 mm · AC5 · Uniclic® for laminate, rigid SPC with a bonded acoustic pad for vinyl. No open-market batches, no season-to-season substitutions. Every lot is inspected before it ships and lands in our own Sacramento warehouse with its mill region, production date, and lot number printed on the box.
Then — and this is the part the industry calls naive — we install it ourselves. W-2 crews, trained on exactly two floor systems, working from published prices. When the same company mills the spec, owns the inventory, and swings the tapping block, a lifetime warranty on product and labor stops being marketing and starts being simple accountability: there is no one else to blame.
