Color groups are a guide: undertones shift with daylight and lamps, and one plank can sit in two groups. Pick up a free sample and look at it on your own floor.
The layer of real oak on top of the board. It sets how many times the floor can be sanded and refinished: about 2 mm allows a light refinish, 3 to 4 mm allows full ones. It is the difference between a floor you keep for decades and one you replace.
Plank width. Wider boards show more grain and make a room calmer; every board we stock is wide plank, 7 inches and up. Lengths are 75 or 87 inches, so rooms take few end joints.
How the boards join. Tongue and groove boards are nailed or glued to the subfloor, the traditional method. Click boards lock together and float over most flat floors, which is faster and goes over concrete without glue.
Materials per square foot. Installation by our crews in the Sacramento area adds $4.35 per sqft; removal, baseboard and stairs are priced per room.
A collection is one spec (thickness, wear layer, width) in several colors. Mixing colors from one collection keeps the floor height and feel identical between rooms.

Why white oak leads the market.
Every board on this page is topped with European oak, a white oak species with calm, tight grain. It is the wood behind most of today's natural and pale floors, and it takes light, gray and warm finishes evenly.
White oak is hard, stable and has a quieter grain than red oak, so a whole room reads calm instead of busy. It also has a neutral, slightly olive base, which is why pale, greige and natural finishes look clean on it rather than pink. European oak is the white oak grown in Europe; it is prized for long, wide boards.
We carry it in three builds: KONO Sonoma (14 mm, 2 mm wear layer, character grade) from $4.99 per sqft, KONO Estate (14 mm three-layer, 4 mm wear layer, click, 87 inch boards) and KONO Grand (3/4 inch, 4 mm wear layer, 9-1/2 inch wide). Installed by our crews, white oak starts at $9.34 per sqft in the Sacramento area.

White oak questions, answered straight.
Is European oak the same as white oak?
European oak is a white oak species grown in Europe. It shares white oak's hardness and closed, calm grain, and it is often milled into longer and wider boards than American white oak.
White oak or red oak flooring?
White oak has a calmer grain and a neutral base that suits pale and gray finishes. Red oak is warmer and its bold grain hides wear. See red oak flooring.
Is engineered white oak real wood?
Yes. The top layer you walk on is solid oak, 2 to 4 mm thick on our boards; the core underneath keeps the board stable through Sacramento summers and over concrete.
