Where red oak makes sense.

Red oak is the floor in most American homes built before 2000: warm, with a pink-tan cast and bold open grain. KONO Heritage is engineered red oak with a 3 mm wear layer, in five finishes from natural to charcoal.

If the rest of the house already has red oak (stairs, a hallway, an older room), matching species keeps the grain consistent where the new floor meets the old. Red oak's open, wavy grain also hides scratches and dust better than calmer woods, which suits busy family homes.

Heritage boards are 15 mm thick with a 3 mm red oak wear layer, enough for a full sand and refinish, in 7-1/2 by 75 inch planks of select (ABC) grade. Installed by our crews, red oak starts at $10.85 per sqft in the Sacramento area.

Red oak questions, answered straight.

Is red oak flooring outdated?

Its natural orange-pink tone went out of fashion, but stained red oak (gray, charcoal, tan) looks current and keeps the grain that hides wear.

Can I match new red oak to my existing floors?

Species and grain will match; color depends on the finish and age of your old floor. Bring a sample next to it in daylight before you decide.

Red oak or white oak?

Red oak is warmer and its grain is bolder; white oak is calmer and suits pale finishes. See white oak flooring.
